Internet search [pulseaudio «main.c: User-configured server»] —> I think that’s pulseaudio talk for «it didn’t start».
/.pulseXX file or dir **). Then try that «—start» again.
**I removed pulseaudio because of this sort of nonsense, so I’m kinda guessing at the exact file names.

I think I have found the cause for no sound in Firefox.
When I start Firefox with
I don’t get sound but when I launch firefox without Firejail I hear sound.
Now is there a way to use FF with Firejail and get sound too ?

Install and run PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol.)
When your 32 bit Firefox is playing something that has sound, look at pavucontrol’s Playback tab to see if it shows something trying to play.

I searched and searched. and I know that if I don’t find it on Google, my question must be retarded. but, there isn’t one thread I found that pertains only to my problem, on my platform. here goes:
There is no sound in Firefox, period. Everything else works.
I’m running Rhythmbox for MP3s, the default DVD player for DVDs, and they both work fine.
My system:
Intel 945 board
Intel P4 Dual Core 2.8Ghz
Corsair PPC4200 1GB
WD SATA2 250GB
ATI X800GTO2
No sound card, USB Headset
It isn’t a deal breaker not to get this working. but it is the ONLY thing that doesn’t work.
The caveat is that I’m not a Linux guru, but just a regular guy who tinkers. I’ve had Mint for almost a week and love it. I just need a little assistance.

Please report this as a bug in the bug thread for the RC release.
Sound for flash should work out of the box. Maybe it is something specific for your hardware. I am not sure. But please report this so that you will not have to go through this in the final release. Some who knows a fix might help you out over there as well.

It’s already in the bug thread, and there is a workaround for rc1 too.
ps: shane, the sig below isn’t for you!

shane,
Yea, lots to follow . . I think the proprietary flash needs to be replaced.
Seems to me to be a lot of anticipation around here! Personally, I’m sqirmin’n’ma’seat for the kde release for my eye candy machine, and I’ll patiently wait for xfce.
mafteechr,
I’ll search for the thread.

Code: Select all
apt remove —purge -y flashplugin-nonfree nspluginwrapper
Code: Select all
apt install flashplugin-nonfree
The above seems to be the general consensus cure for this problem. There are a dozen or so threads in the forum with regards to this same ailment, so you may want to look at a few of them to see if you need anything special.

Hi I had the exact same problem, with youtube, Deezer etc. freezing after I changed tabs and navigated to something else, or just being slow and stuff
My solution to this (credit goes to Miket for this actually )
Type this in the Terminal to remove the non-free flashplugin
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree
Then this to install the Adobe Flash plugin
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin

I have an HP1120NR which is essentially the same thing you have except for the 10′ screen. I tried every trick out there located both on this site and Ubuntu and a few others also, and I can say for sure that Ubuntu 9.04 and Mint 7RC1 do not work out of the box for sound on these systems. I just went back to mint 6 and everything works perfectly even after updating, same goes for the previous version of Ubuntu. Not sure if it is the version of Alsa because 1.0.17 worked fine but 1.0.18 which both mint 7 and Ubuntu 9.04 used does not produce any sound. Sorry I can’t help you out more.

Don’t worry I have to wrestle with my audio controls everyday as I switch between my HDMI TV and my laptops. Installing PulseAudio was helpful on many distros.
You might also look into other audio management applications which are alternatives to PulseAudio. Often there are different pathways to the correct settings.
In particular, although this may not help you directly, I have at times been able to switch to the desired audio output hardware selection directly from VLC.
Come to think of it, you might try that, or some other app, such as Audacity, which may give you access to the correct settings switch. With luck, changes that you make in such apps might also then correct the problem with Firefox.
I have observed chatter by people who really don’t like PulseAudio, but they don’t seem to be in agreement on any replacements that are actually better and they seem resigned to put up with it.
Tweaking is something I have come to live with it doesn’t bother me much ., But if I was performing or doing sound at a live gig, I would need a more reliable setup. However, i don’t think I have these problems in Mint I think it is only in Ubuntu or Fedora or Arch of OpenSUSE or some subset of those distros, which I still do use at times. But Mint is now my preferred distro, it just works and I can’t go through life without those awesome screen savers.
