Lenovo fingerprint software windows 10
Just purchased the x1 carbon, upgraded to windwos 10 and I cannot install the Lenovo Fingerprint reader software! I only see 8.1 avaiable. No option for Windows 10?
Nevermind! Found a fix.

Man, the 2015 X1 Carbon is crap!
The 2013 model, I could turn the laptop on with the fingerprint sensor!
Re: 2015 X1 Carbon fingerprint reader and Windows 10?
Windows 10 does fingerprint authentication on its own now via Windows Hello.

Re: 2015 X1 Carbon fingerprint reader and Windows 10?
In response to customer reports of the fingerprint reader not working as expected on X1 Carbon laptops (Type 20A7, 20A8, 20BS, and 20BT), Lenovo has released an updated driver.
(Fix) Fix for Driver does not work when upgraded from Windows Update to OS Win10 TH2.
Validity Fingerprint Common Driver v.4.5.505 can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS103635

Re: 2015 X1 Carbon fingerprint reader and Windows 10?
I have had my X1 for about 18 months now and have recently (about 2 weeks ago) upgraded to Win 10. Under Win 8/8.1 the fingerprint services was intermittent, usually failing after coming out of sleep or after attaching the ProDock.
I followed the instructions on the Lenovo site to do the Win 10 upgrade. I upgraded BIOS, deleted the Fingerprint manager software, and after doing the upgrade to Win10 I went into Device Manager and checked for the latest Synaptics fingerprint driver from Lenovo.
During the first week the fingerprint reader was intermittent as it had been in the past, but it is now completely inoperative. When I go into Device Manager windows does not list any biometric devices. I did notice that under USB Serial Bus Controllers there is an «Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed» (See attached screen shot.)
If I delete the failed USB device and reboot my computer the fingerprint scanner works on the first startup and the Biometric service appears until my machine goes to sleep or restarts again and it forgets the fingerprint service.
I hope this helps and that you can suggest a permanent fix.

Is anyone working on a driver for the fingerprint reader on these machines running Windows 10?
I was surprised to find out from the Lenovo website that there is no driver available for the T510 running Windows 10.
I guess I didn’t do quite all of my homework. I didn’t think it would be a big deal to get a driver for this.

Sooner or later ill try installing the fpr driver for my t500 running 10 (it’s actually a z60m palmrest fpr) and see what happens. When i ran 7 i needed to use an older version for my fpr specifically, but anyway
I’d try installing the latest driver for 7 or 8.

I tried that. It didn’t recognize it.
There is a biometric device listed in the device manager, but it is not a Lenovo labeled device. I’m not on that machine right now, but I’m going to work on it some more today along with getting the rest of the machine configured.
Everything else appears to be working correctly. The volume display is different, but at least it appears. I did not notice if I had a brightness display.
Cortana seems to be nothing more than a voice operated search engine using Bing. I may as well just type the search in manually for as accurate as it is. It’s been voice trained so recognition is not the problem. It just doesn’t seem too smart.
Well, I bought it to learn with and to play around on, not for any kind of serious work. I have the T500, another T510, and my main T520 system for those tasks.
One thing I’ll give Win 10 is that it boots incredibly fast. Even faster than Win 7 on a SSD.

It also boots fast. But I think that the biggest boost was Win7 to Win8, and not Win8 to Win10.
On my dual-boot system, 8.1 is much faster than 7 in all of the following: booting, shutting down, hibernating and resuming from hibernation.

I recently found out for both my X61 and my T500 that removal of the Lenovo fingerprint software magically allowed the FPR to start working for Windows logon. This after fighting the issue for months and months. Apparently the inbuilt Windows functionality is sufficient, at least for logon purposes. I don’t use the FPR for anything else so I can’t speak further.

I did finally get the fingerprint scanner up and running. Not without a heck of a lot of internet searching. I’ve been at this since around 9 this morning.
I deleted the device driver and re-booted the machine. It downloaded a driver that indicated that it was WBF Advanced (Windows Biometric Framework. However, the description of the driver indicated further installation was required. The problem is that although the driver is installed there is no associated GUI program to enter fingerprints and thus turn the device ‘on’.
After a considerable amount of searching I found a UPEK driver update for the TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF Advanced Mode). This is located in the Microsoft Update Catalog here:http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/ . 86e4ed687a
After this is downloaded you can open it and click on enroll.exe and this will open the GUI needed to enroll fingerprints. There is a quirk or a bug using this though. You are able to enroll only one fingerprint at a time. It will not recognize a second fingerprint even if you select the finger to enter. You must close the program and re-open it. It does save and record each of the previous prints you’ve entered.
After all of my fingerprints were entered, the Sign-In options menu now includes Windows Hello selection. After adding a PIN fingerprint sign in works as it should. Finally.
So if anyone else, or one of your clients is having a problem with a fingerprint scanner after a Windows 10 upgrade this should take care of it.

I have the X1 Carbon Gen 3, preinstalled with Win7 Pro. I upgraded to Win10 yesterday and only realised now that I should have removed this Fingerprint Manager Pro BEFORE the update.
How can I remove it now? The uninstallation won’t even run.

Re: How to manually remove Fingerprint Manager Pro in Win10?
There is a work-around to uninstall Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro on Windows 10:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\<314FAD12-F785-4471-BCE8-AB506642B9A1>\ISSetup.dll”
Then try the uninstall again.

It worked here, sorry I don’t have another idea except to go back to Win7, uninstall the fingerprint software, and then upgrade to Win10 again. Or else just leave the fingerprint software installed, it shouldn’t cause any problems.

That is a completely unexpected reply. You do realise that is way more trouble than it sounds and potentially could cause more problems.
I did ask for a manual removal solution. perhaps you can suggest a way to manually remove the files and uninstall entry without wreaking havoc on the system?

Re: How to manually remove Fingerprint Manager Pro in Win10?
Is your FPM pro version 8.01.42? You state in came preinstalled on your win 7 system. Did you ever have win 8/8.1 installed? -or- just put win10 upgrade on top of win 7? You got power manager removed.
The official uninstall is in Pf(x86)\installshield\xxx GUID. Someotherguy changed a module in this folder and got success, you did not.
Let’s take the power manager workaround and try a test. Locate
Old command from other post (to get power manager uninstalled):
BUT: when I lauch setup.exe from C:\swtools\readyapps\pwrmgrv directory it does uninstall Power Manager. Command line: «c:\swtools\readyapps\pwrmgrv\setup.exe -l0x9 -AddRemove»
«c:\swtools\drivers\fingerprint\lz4goaa2_64\setup.exe -l0x0409 -AddRemove»
FPM pro used a combination of msi installer and installshield and is available on certain win7.8/8.1 machines.

Re: How to manually remove Fingerprint Manager Pro in Win10?
I did some testing on my machine today. I have win7 home and no fingerprint reader device.
Please state your exact error message. Is it «cannot run on this version of windows»? probably an installshield error message.
installer .exe : lz4goaa2_64 >uses installshield 2011 Pro edition
Extracts to \swtools\fingerprint\lz4goaa2_64.
. module ISSsetup.dll is version 17.0.0.717 modified 4/2/2015 6.66mb(6,990,780 btyes used)
. module setup.exe is version 7.0.30.0 modified 4/2/2015 1.22mb(1,182,456 byes used)
Uninstaller is located in PF(x86)\installshieldinstallation\<314FAD12llll. Same folder someotherguy referenced.

Re: How to manually remove Fingerprint Manager Pro in Win10?
On Aug 15, you decided to install win 10 on top of working win 7 system.
Now, some things dont work, ie, FPM. Lenovo does not warrant your win 10, FPM to work. You bought a Lenovo win 7 carbon gen 3.
You want the simple fix for you, wont happen, u stuck. Sad.
I will never selfupdate to win 10. I will pay for the clean install 1st. I will wait at least a year before I would try any win 10 install. Your uninstall failure of FPM confirms this. The technical stuff above might help. Not the typical homeowner, delve into modify modules. I dont want you lost, but you asked how to.
You bought the carbon 2013? win 7 came out Sept 2009. You bought end of cycle, now burnt new OS wise.

This fingerprint folder does not exist in my SWTOOLS\drivers folder or similar.

My machine is the X1 Carbon 2015 bought in April this year, preinstalled with Win7 Pro ( via downgrade rights from Win8) because I didn’t want Win8 and was waiting for 10.
For those hoping for a resolution, here are my final steps:
1. The original drivers (SWTOOLS\drivers\fingerprint) no longer reside on my laptop and I will not restore / revert to Win7 just to see if it existed then.
2. I will delete the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\
3. I will remove the registry entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
4. I will delete the folders referenced by above registry entry C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\SystemUpdate\session\Repository\lz4goaa2_32 & lz4goaa2_64
Ok, I’m exporting and relocating the above but you get the idea.
Rebooted my system several times to be sure but my fingerprint scanner still works as advertised and the entry no longer exists in Control Panel — Programs and features.
Thank you someotherguy for the GUID.
