Get a Vintage Linux Terminal with Cool Retro Terminal

Nostalgic about the past? Get a slice of the past by installing retro terminal app cool-retro-term which, as the name suggests, is both cool and retro at the same.
Do you remember the time when there were CRT monitors everywhere and the terminal screen used to flicker? You don’t need to be old to have witnessed it. If you watch movies set in early 90’s, you’ll see plenty of CRT monitors with green/B&W command prompt. It has a geeky aura which makes it cooler.
If you are tired of terminal appearance and you need something cool and ‘new’, cool-retro-term will give you a vintage terminal appearance to relive the past. You also can change its color, animation kind, and add some effect to it.
Install Cool Retro Term in Linux
There are various ways to install Cool Retro Term in Linux. One distro-agnostic way would be to use Snap. If your Linux distribution has Snap support enabled, you can use this command to install cool-retro-term:
Ubuntu users can find it in the Software Center as well.
If you don’t want to use Snap package, don’t worry. There are other ways to install it.
Install cool-retro-term in Ubuntu based Linux distributions
There are PPAs available for easily installing cool-retro-term on Ubuntu-based distributions such as Linux Mint, elementary OS, Linux Lite etc.
For Ubuntu 18.04, 18.10, 19.04, Linux Mint 19 and higher, use this PPA:
For Ubuntu 16.04 and Linux Mint 18 series, use this PPA:

Installing cool-retro-term in Arch based Linux distributions such as Antergos and Manjaro, use the following command:

cool-retro-term is a terminal emulator which mimics the look and feel of the old cathode tube screens. It has been designed to be eye-candy, customizable, and reasonably lightweight.
It uses the QML port of qtermwidget (Konsole) developed by me: https://github.com/Swordfish90/qmltermwidget .
This terminal emulator works under Linux and macOS and requires Qt 5.2 or higher.
Settings such as colors, fonts, and effects can be accessed via context menu.

Fedora has the cool-retro-term in the official repositories. All you have to do is sudo dnf install cool-retro-term .
Users of openSUSE can grab a package from Open Build Service.
Arch users can install this package directly via the AUR:

Users of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty) up to 15.10 (Wily) can use this PPA.

Grab a copy of the FreeBSD Ports Collection, modify /usr/ports/x11/cool-retro-term/Makefile as you like, and then run make install to build and install the emulator:

Install Qt directly from here http://qt-project.org/downloads . Once done export them in you path (replace «/opt/Qt5.3.1/5.3/gcc_64/bin» with your correct folder):
Once you installed all dependencies (Qt is installed and in your path) you need to compile and run the application:

Добрый день всем, кто оказался на данном сайте. Если вы хотите себе необычный терминал, то попробуйте Cool Retro Term. Он выполнен в стиле старого монитора с электронно-лучевой-трубкой. В его основе лежит терминал QTerminal. Cool Retro Term имеет несколько тем оформления, например Apple Terminal, IBM DOS или Knight TV. Давайте перейдем к установки данного терминала.
Установка Cool Retro Term в Linux
Установить Cool Retro Term можно из репозиториев самого дистрибутива Linux, либо, для Ubuntu имеется PPA репозиторий. Для установки переходим в терминал и вводим команды:
sudo apt install cool-retro-term
Подключаем PPA репозиторий для Ubuntu, переходим в терминал и вводим команду:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:vantuz/cool-retro-term
Далее обновляем списки пакетов и устанавливаем Cool Retro Term:
sudo apt install cool-retro-term
Установка в Fedora
sudo dnf install cool-retro-term
Установка в Arch / Manjaro
sudo pacman -Sy cool-retro-term
Сама программа Cool Retro Term имеет множество настроек, например, можно изменять шрифты, яркость и контрастность, прозрачность и эффекты, а так же и прочие настройки:
Не думаю что данный терминал подойдет для повседневного использования, так как лично я привык к стандартному виду терминала. Хотя, может кому то и понравится данный вид терминала. Это пожалуй, дело привычки.

Cool Retro Term
Cool Retro Term — терминал для Linux в старом ламповом стиле. Имеет несколько тем оформления. Позволяет настраивать внешний вид.
Программа Cool Retro Term (официальное название cool-retro-term) — это эмулятор терминала, который выглядит, как терминал на старом экране. Как будто вы сидите за старым монитором с электронно-лучевой-трубкой.
В основе Cool Retro Term лежит эмулятор терминала QTerminal. В целом программа является полноценным эмулятором терминала, но вряд ли кто-то будет использовать ее для повседневных нужд.
Cool Retro Term смотрится очень эффектно. Текст в терминале искажен так, что создается впечатление выпуклого экрана. Есть различная анимация, визуальный шум и другие эффекты.
Программа имеет довольно большое количество настроек внешнего вида. Можно редактировать эффекты, шрифты, цвета, яркость, контрастность, прозрачность и прочее.
Есть несколько предустановленных тем. Например, можно включить эмуляцию (имеется ввиду внешний вид) Apple Terminal (используется шрифт Apple 1977), IBM DOS (1985), Knight TV (1975).

Cool Retro Term is based on QTerminal emulator. In General, the program is a full-fledged terminal emulator, but hardly anyone will use it for everyday needs.
The program has a fairly large number of appearance settings. You can edit effects, fonts, colors, brightness, contrast, transparency, and more.
There are several preset themes. For example, you can enable emulation (meaning appearance) of Apple Terminal (using the font Apple 1977), IBM DOS (1985), Knight TV (1975).
Cool Retro Term looks very impressive. The text in the terminal is distorted so that it gives the impression of a convex screen. There are various animation, visual noise and other effects.
