Linux ori and the blind forest
Guys, making ports isn’t something we as the developers can decide upon — We signed Ori and the Blind Forest with Microsoft, they paid for the party, so they call the shots. For the time being, Ori will only be available on Microsoft-owned platforms, such as Xbox, Win10, PC.
Dust: An Elysian Tail was published by Microsoft, but it’s on Linux.
Mark of the Ninja was published by Microsoft, but it’s on Linux.
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet was published by Microsoft, but it’s on Linux.
One would think that Ori and the Blind Forest on Linux is very much a possibility when considering the above. Please do look into this.
Also, since the game is on Steam, when is it coming to GOG? Quite a few people want to see it sold on GOG. [www.gog.com]

Ori and the Blind Forest
It will work on SteamOS, but they need to improve the DX9 support. Which means it should also work on Mac and Linux.
I think you mean OpenGL buddy.
I would also very much like to see a Linux port so we can cover it on http://www.gamingonlinux.com 🙂
I have no clue if Linux, through wine is strictly opengl, honestly I thought it was all wrapper calls.
I suppose though that opengl, through unity is fairly straight forward.
Bet then again, maybe it’s all a hoax. 😉

Unity is completely seperate from DX9 and OpenGl. It uses them transparently (to the devs).
So yeah «improving OpenGL support» is a pretty weak excuse.
Wow, guess you know a lot huh?
The textures they use are all rendered internally, and use dx11 related api calls. Guess. you knew that though huh?
Be warned: If one day it’s possible to play Ori on Linux, the first thing you’ll see when you launch the game will be «Microsoft Studios»! 😉 I was surprised, I didn’t know Microsoft is the publisher.

DX11 != DX9. Also, those calls are to DLLs that are useable on Linux — not all of DX11 is. In fact, most is not.

No one said DX11 was DX9, and that my friend is the exact point. Do you like to argue someone else’s points for them?
OK. So help me understand. You said they needed to improve DX9 support. When I said that OpenGL and DirectX 9 could be used interchangeably and transparently by Unity-based programs, you used the fact that some DirectX 11 cross-platform DLLs were used by Unity as evidence that I was wrong. Then, when I tried to point out how silly this was, you decided that you’d been saying something else all along. But somehow I’m wrong? LMAO.
Ori and the Blind Forest
Ori and the Blind Forest — станьте спасателем леса, познайте, что такое любовь к мирным существам в мире, где отсвечивают даже звери!
Linux ori and the blind forest
Currently we’re not planning to port to OSX or Linux. But you should tweet to @Oriblindforest and @XboxP3 if you want to see it happen 😉
Now Im not planing to buy the game. But you can change it if linux version will be released.
Join to Great November SteamOS revolution!
I’m sure if it happens it won’t be soon, but it would be great to see this on linux someday. 🙂 I can already tell this is going to be amazing.
Was Skulls of the Shogun similar to this game, in terms of how it was published? That had a lot of microsoft backing, but we did see a linux port eventually. I dunno. I can always hope. 🙂
Dancemasterglenn, yeah. I suspect this game is XNA based, which means the most useful porting kit is far from complete. However, the things stopping that kit from being complete is lack of any vendors funding the project.
Currently the project consists of one programmer doing it on the cheap for Humble Bundle. If developers were to show actual interest in the project and place some funding to hire a few extra programmers as needed, and get the bugs fixed, the project could be stable in no time.
Damn this game looks absolutely fabulous. I really hope we’ll see a Linux build eventually!
The trailer videos are mind-blowing. Really impressive work.
Just to make things clear:
1. The author of Dust: An Elysian Tail won the XBLA release contract upon winning the 2009 Microsoft Dream.Build.Play Challenge.
2. Moon Studios became a Microsoft First Party Developer in 2011.
Feel the difference.
So dreaming about Ori getting Linux support is just like dreaming about Halo being relesed for Linux.
So wine or multiboot are the best options here.
Everywhere I read (including their own website and wikipedia) says that Moon Studios is an «independent studio.» It consistently also says only that this game is being «published» by Microsoft.
Got any sources for Microsoft owning Moon Studios (thus making it a «first party title»)?
