Mac mini sound driver windows

Question: Q: Mac Mini 2011 HDMI audio in Windows 7 64 bit

I thought I would share lessons learned from my Boot Camp install on a Mac Mini.

My config: 2011 Mac Mini 2.3, Intel 3000HD video

. . upgrade to 8GB ram

Samsung 8000 series LED TV connected with HDMI

Memorex external BluRay writer(USB only power)

For Windows 7 install, I tried installing with the 64 bit DVD but this failed as documented elsewhere.

Instead, setup with USB drive, follow instructions available in bootcamp

After partitioning drive with boot camp and reboot, install Windows 7 with install wizard.

When asked whether to allow automatic updates say ‘no’, then complete installation and run boot camp tools for Windows.

Because the network driver gets installed prior to the Intel video driver, Windows will install the Windows Update Intel video driver which breaks HDMI audio.

When auto updates are off, the Intel video driver that is correct gets installed last. HDMI audio works with this driver.

Apple should install the Intel video driver first and it would solve this problem.

I now have full blown 3D BluRay support on the MacMini with TruHD audio, fantastic!

Thanks for sharing this. Just had the same problem on my 2011

Mini Server, and reinstalling the (older) Intel Graphics drivers from Boot Camp fixed it.

Dec 10, 2011 11:47 PM

Just for the record (and because I tried all sorts of different search terms before finding this thread), the problem I was having was the 5.1 audio in W7 via HDMI stopped working. Device Manager showed the High Definition Audio device would not start (code 10). After reinstalling the Intel Graphics driver as suggested, the audio device now shows up as «Intel(R) Dislay Audio» and 5.1 works fine.

Thanks Again to the OP.

Could someone exlpain how to uninstall and reinstall the Intel graphics drivers?

Feb 25, 2012 9:55 PM

Programs control panel

Device Manager — uninstall / rollback

If you want you can sometimes right after installing, use Windows Restore points to go back to how the system was configured

thank you for the help. I should be uninstalling the «Intel(R) HD Graphics family» under display adapters correct?

I have a question for you.

Does your Intel HDMI Audio device appear in the Windows 7 «Playback Device»?
Because i have installed «Intel (HD) Display Audio» driver sucessfull. but..since i can’t see a «Playback Device» i can’t set it as Default Audio Device in order to use it when i connect my HDMI Cable.

I tried more than 3 or 4 clean installs. with Windows 7 32-bit and Windows 7 64-bit.

I used Original Windows 7 professional SP1 discs for this, and also tried to disable windows update from the begining and just install the «Boot Camp Drivers».

But still no solution..

I also went to intel forums to ask with no solution yet.

And also tried Windows 8 Developer preview and Consumer preview.

My device is: «Apple Macbook Air mid-2011» and i also have Intel HD 3000 Graphics.
HDMI/Displayport Audio is working fine in Lion.

UPDATE:

I just discovered a good clue on my problem.

I always use my A/V Receiver to connect HDMI devices.

I tried connecting directly my Samsung TV to the Macbook and Intel (HD) Graphics Audio recognized the TV and a new «Playback Device» appeared in the Windows menu.

So the currently problem is that (just in Windows 7, since in OS X HDMI audio is working with DENON A/V Receiver):

Intel HD 3000 graphics is not detecting as an «HDMI audio-capable device»

My denon A/V receiver ( DENON AVR-1712 ) is sucessfull detected by my netbook with Intel G45 Express Graphics, but not working if i use Intel HD 3000 graphics on my MBA.

Thank you so much for posting this fix! I had problems with my Macbook Air 2011 with something called «High Definition Audio Device» not starting properly. Since regular audio was working just fine, I just ignored it and blamed it on a boot camp quirk. It wasn’t until I started using my MBA hooked up to a display through thunderbolt that I noticed that audio was not transmitting through the HDMI/Thunderbolt Cable.

It was maddening because I thought there was something wrong with my cable. I tried reinstalling the audio drivers from the bootcamp WindowsSupport folder (Realtek, cirrus, sigmatel, etc) but none of them worked. I did as you suggested and reinstalled the Intel video drivers and it worked immediately. Now I have audio and video through a single cable. Thanks a bunch dude.

Download and install Windows support software on your Mac

After using Boot Camp Assistant to install or upgrade Microsoft Windows on your Mac, you might also need to install the latest Windows support software (drivers) from Apple.

When you install Microsoft Windows on your Mac, Boot Camp Assistant automatically opens the Boot Camp installer, which installs the latest Windows support software (drivers). If that doesn’t happen, or you experience any of the following issues while using Windows on your Mac, follow the steps in this article.

  • Your Apple mouse, trackpad, or keyboard isn’t working in Windows.
Force Touch isn’t designed to work in Windows.
  • You don’t hear audio from the built-in speakers of your Mac in Windows.
  • The built-in microphone or camera of your Mac isn’t recognized in Windows.
  • One or more screen resolutions are unavailable for your display in Windows.
  • You can’t adjust the brightness of your built-in display in Windows.
  • You have issues with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi in Windows.
  • You get an alert that Apple Software Update has stopped working.
  • You get a message that your PC has a driver or service that isn’t ready for this version of Windows.
  • Your Mac starts up to a black or blue screen after you install Windows.

If your Mac has an AMD video card and is having graphics issues in Windows, you might need to update your AMD graphics drivers instead.

Install the latest macOS updates

Before proceeding, install the latest macOS updates, which can include updates to Boot Camp.

Format a USB flash drive

To install the latest Windows support software, you need a 16GB or larger USB flash drive formatted as MS-DOS (FAT).

  1. Start your Mac from macOS.
  2. Plug the USB flash drive into your Mac.
  3. Open Disk Utility, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  4. Choose View > Show All Devices from the menu bar.
  5. From the sidebar in Disk Utility, select your USB flash drive. (Select the drive name, not the volume name beneath it.)
  6. Click the Erase button or tab.
  7. Choose MS-DOS (FAT) as the format and Master Boot Record as the scheme.
  8. Click Erase to format the drive. When done, quit Disk Utility.

Download the Windows support software

  1. Make sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet.
  2. Open Boot Camp Assistant, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  3. From the menu bar at the top of your screen, choose Action > Download Windows Support Software, then choose your USB flash drive as the save destination. When the download completes, quit Boot Camp Assistant.

Install the Windows support software

After downloading the Windows support software to your flash drive, follow these steps to install the software. (If you’re attempting to resolve issues with a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard, it might be easier to use a USB mouse or keyboard until these steps are complete.)

  1. Make sure that the USB flash drive is plugged into your Mac.
  2. Start up your Mac in Windows.
  3. From File Explorer, open the USB flash drive, then open Setup or setup.exe, which is in the WindowsSupport folder or BootCamp folder. When you’re asked to allow Boot Camp to make changes to your device, click Yes.
  4. Click Repair to begin installation. If you get an alert that the software hasn’t passed Windows Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
  5. After installation completes, click Finish, then click Yes when you’re asked to restart your Mac.

Learn more

If you can’t download or save the Windows support software:

  • If the assistant says that the Windows support software could not be saved to the selected drive, or that the USB flash drive can’t be used, make sure that your USB flash drive has a storage capacity of at least 16GB and is formatted correctly.
  • If the assistant doesn’t see your USB flash drive, click Go Back and make sure that the drive is connected directly to the USB port on your Mac—not to a display, hub, or keyboard. Disconnect and reconnect the drive, then click Continue.
  • If the assistant says that it can’t download the software because of a network problem, make sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet.
  • Make sure that your Mac meets the system requirements to install Windows using Boot Camp.

If a Mac feature still doesn’t work after updating the Windows support software, search for your symptom on the Apple support website or Microsoft support website. Some features of your Mac aren’t designed to work in Windows.

Question: Q: MacBook Pro Audio Driver

Which audio driver is used by MacBook Pro 7.1. I’m running BootCamp (Windows7 Ultimate x64) and I’m having a problem with audio input, so I’m looking for anything taht will make it work.

In Device Manager I had «Cirrus CS4206A (AB13)» and three devices of «NVIDIA High Definition Audio». Then somehow I updated Cirrus driver to «High Definition Audio», but Audio-IN is not working, only Audio-OUT (The same thing with Cirrus). Just to mention, my MB is using only one «multi» audio jack.

The thing I can’t understand is — Is MacBook Using Realtek Audio, stupid Cirrus or NVIDIA Audio .

I can’t contact Cirrus Support, because on their website it’s written:

We produce integrated circuits that manufacturers design into their audio and video products. We do not manufacture graphics cards, sound cards or modems.

Your retail manufacturer is responsible for your product support. Please contact your manufacturer or visit your manufacturer’s Web site for driver support.

These generic drivers may have been modified by the electronics manufacturer to suit a particular product. We recommend that you contact your product’s manufacturer for support.

I contacted Apple Support (Chat) and the person I got on the chat is a noob! He told me to uninstall BootCamp or whole Win7. And he gave me a link to Microsoft Support. So, nothing really helpful, he just bumped me to Microsoft.

When I install Realtek HD Audio Driver/Codec there are no changes and no Audio Manager running!!

I mean who else is using stupid Cirrus -Citrus- s**t. I tought I bought good laptop for my job, but this is not usable for me in this situation.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), 13inch ; Core2Duo ; 4GB RAM ; NVIDIA 320M

all these drivers support Windows 7, 32 bit

* drivers that support Windows 7, 32 and 64 bit

You can download the drives to a USB2 flash drive and Boot Camp: Install or repair Boot Camp drivers.

If you have used anything other than a standard BC Assistant to install Windows, you will run into audio and GPT issues. For example using Windows EFI Boot will not work properly.
