No bootable device insert boot disk and press any key.
No bootable device insert boot disk and press any key».
Если вы получаете ошибку «No bootable device insert boot disk and press any key», то первое, что необходимо сделать, это отключить от компьютера все флешки (а также карты памяти и внешние жесткие диски) и перезагрузить компьютер.
Если на вашем компьютере установлено несколько жестких дисков, то причиной возникновения ошибки «No bootable device insert boot disk and press any key» могут быть неправильные настройки BIOS.
Замените батарейку и вполне вероятно, что проблема с ошибкой «No bootable device insert boot disk and press any key» будет решена.
Если BIOS не может обнаружить загрузчик на жестком диске, то система может сообщать об ошибке «No bootable device insert boot disk and press any key».

Question: Q: «No bootable device — insert boot disk and press any key»
I had deleted my Bootcamp partition before I reset my startup disk to my the one for Mac OS. On computer start up, I get the «No bootable device — insert boot disk and press any key» message. I have tried suggests like hold down the option key during start up, and hold down command-R during start up. The system ignores that I have the buttons down and presents me with the above message every time.
I was actually in the process of trying to clean up the computer when this happened. At this point, it would be great if I could just erase the disk and reinstall Mac OS from scratch. I tried using the DVD that came with my Mac, but the DVD in the drive is ignored and I get the above message. I know the DVD drive works since it is able to read a Windows 7 DVD.
How can I do a clean installation of Mac OS when the hard-drive is in this state?

In case you didn’t find solution yet, I wanted to help you out with this proposal:
First step, turn on your Imac and hold option key. Startup Manager should appear offering at least one choice or more to click on. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1310
Second step, Choose OS X partition or disc and it should boot up your OS X.
Third step, once your system is on (hopefully), go to System Preferences and chose Startup disk. It must be unlocked.
It will be written above, Select the system you want to use to start up your computer
click on your IMac OS X and click restart button on right side.
This restart would help your OS X to return its default mode without interfering with other Boot Camp / Windows partition/s.

Are you really running OS 10.4, as is shown in your profile? If yes, do you have the system disks? Or do you have any other OS disks?
Sep 15, 2013 4:40 PM
I’m not sure which version of the OS I am running. I just know that this iMac is so old, I couldn’t install the latest version. I do have the 10.4.4 disks that came with the computer, which I tried. I also tried disks for 10.5 and 10.6. My system will not boot or start an installation from any of these disks.

Your computer is running, right?
Go to Apple Menu / About This Mac (could be About This Computer, if it is really old.) and that will tell you what version of Mac OS X is running.
This is important to know — the procedures for erasing can vary from one OS version to the next.

No it is not running.
When I start it up, after a few seconds I am on a black screen which only has the «No bootable device . » message. I am never able to get past this to the Mac OS login screeen.
Either of two possible paths to resolve this would be great.
- Somehow get past this screen to Mac OS
- Reinstall Mac OS and begin a new, even if I cannot erase the disk.

You mentioned a DVD that came with the computer. What is the OS on it? That info should be written on the face of the DVD.
Try this: put the DVD into the computer and restart it while holding the C key down.
If the computre boots, run the OS installer and select a clean installation — i.e. erase the drive and install.

The version on the disk that came with the computer is 10.4.4
I tried holding the C key on restart, but the result is the same, «No bootable device . » message.
Thanks for the time you have taken so far.

Do you hear a chime when the computer starts up?
If there is a chime, try resetting the PRAM:
Restart the computer and hold down the command, option, p and r keys = all four at the same time. Keep holding the keys down till the computer has gone through 3 sets of chimes. Release the keys.
Insert the DVD and restart, while hold down the C key.

Yes, I do hear the chime. The screen goes white at the same time as the chime. Moments later, the screen goes black and displays the error message.
I tried holding down the option, command, r, & p keys during the start up. I tried by holding the buttons immediately after I hit the power button, and I have tried holding the buttons after hearing the initial chime. The same thing continues to happen, screen goes to black with the displayed error message. I started to wonder if the keyboard was somehow fried during all of this, but I plugged it into another iMac, and the keyboard works fine.
But for some reason, the keyboard seems to be totally ignored. No matter what buttons I hold down during startup, the same thing always happens. Note that this is a corded usb Apple keyboard. It shouldn’t matter, but the mouse is a Logitec usb wireless one (not bluetooth).

First, put the OS DVD into the computer. Then do the following:
- Press the power button to turn on your computer.
- Press and hold the D key before the gray startup screen appears.
- It takes a minute or so for AHT to start up and inspect your hardware configuration. While this is taking place, an icon appears on the screen:
- When the process is complete, select your language and click the right arrow. If you aren’t using a mouse, you can use the up and down arrows to select a language and then press the Return key.
- The AHT console appears. You can choose which sort of test or tests to perform:
- To perform all of the basic tests, click the Test button or press the «T» key or the Return key.
- To perform a more thorough diagnostic test, select the «Perform extended testing» checkbox under the Test button before you click the Test button.
- Note: Your test results will appear in the window in the bottom-right of the console.
- To exit AHT, click Restart or Shut Down at the bottom of the window.

Do you have access to an external DVD drive? I am wondering if your drive is acting up.
Sep 16, 2013 6:26 AM
Holding down the D key does not seem to do anything either.
I don’t think that it is the DVD drive. Yesterday I was able to read a Win 7 DVD and begin a Bootcamp install from it. I don’t have an external drive anyway.
Eustace, thank you so much for your time. I have already used up way more than I should have. I may just have to bring this over to a local service center.
Thanks again, you are the best!

Perhaps something on the drive is preventing the computer from recognizing the OS DVD.
How about booting in Win 7 and erasing the drive?
Must admit I have not used Windows in about 6 years, so perhaps the option to erase the drive on boot up is no longer included ??
As for my time — not a problem, and you are welcome.

I was hoping to do something like this yesterday, but I had already blown away the Bootcamp disk partition, so there was no where to install Win 7 and in turn continue with the install. Yeah, I really mucked things up.

Do you have access to another Mac to which you can connect the iMac with a firewire cable?
I am wondering if target disk mode would work.
Sep 16, 2013 9:00 AM
It looks like the host computer (the iMac I am having trouble with) is expected to be running the OS, since the description mentions being able to see the Target disk on the host computer’s desktop.
No worries, thanks again for all of the great advice!
