A must have app!
(Updating the review as I wrote my orginal review years ago) This is still a must have app. It is indispensable for average/casual users and apple nerds alike. I also highly recommend downloading Ian’s iOS apps. Great to have access to this very accurate information on all your devices. Download here now and then go download on iOS. You won’t regret it.
Even if you’re a casual user (i.e. not a tech geek) you should download this app. You will find it immensely helpful (especially in times of need like repairs, resale, getting replacement parts, etc.) for identifying your exact computer or idevice. For the Apple/Mac afficiando or collector, it is an invaluable tool. It’s also fun to just take a trip down memory lane through all the many, many years of Apple products. How many products have you owned? Do you remember your first Apple II from back in the 70’s? Ian Page has done an excellent job with this app. Thank you Ian!
My Goto Reference
I’m an IT Professional and this is my goto reference app, especially for legacy equipment. Some of the key features are being able to lookup RAM on the fly, what OS X or iOS a system was shipped with, the latest iOS or OS X a device can run, as well as the all important Apple classification of «Supported, Vintage or Obsolete» Thanks so much for including build and model numbers with all of the various generations of product lines.
It’s worth installing just to take a trip down memory lane with a history lesson regarding such groundbreaking innovations as the 10th Anniversary Macintosh, The «Cube» i.e. The Power Mac G4 Cube, and especially the xserve line which I’m still heartbroken over losing.
One last thing. Get in touch with the developers of MActracker if you find this program usefull! I did.
Great reference app
This is a great reference application when it comes to Apple products (especially hardware). Now sure, something like this can easily be thrown into a web interface, but having a quick, and lightweight app to pull this kind of information is really nice. The smart categories in particular can really help speed up your search; for example, you can create a category for Macs with Coffee Lake CPUs, or all Mac models that are currently supported. Of course, you can get way more specific with category criteria, but I think the point has been made. Occasionally, there can be delays when it comes to the addition of new products, but this isn’t really a significant issue (if one at all).

Amazing app I have loved for years!
So, let’s get this out of the way. The app is amazing. It is LOADED with info for pretty much everything Apple has ever released. I see people complain about new products are not included quickly. Seriously? You’re complaining that the free app you’ve downloaded isn’t updated, for free, quickly enough? My response is to ask how much THEIR time is worth. Ian will get it updated eventually, but the app is always a bit behind because Apple keeps releasing new products. For things in the app, the amount of info is incredible. It’s saved me many times over the years. Anyway, enjoy the app and marvel in how well Ian is doing to get this info out there. And just maybe, go to his website and donate some money for this free and wonderful app! 🙂
Great Reference
Have used this as a reference for a few years now. It’s excellent for comparing Apple products and seeing detailed information that is not readily available to the average user. I found it exceptionally useful when buying a used Mac two years ago since I could find the computer with the specs I needed and match that computer’s product number to the product numbers given by sellers.
And of course, for any Apple lover or obsessionato, this is a must have! Aside from its practical applications, this app provides hours of fun just browsing the content of Apple’s rich history in tech.
Mostly great, but .
This “App” contains a vast amount of info on (almost) the entire line of Apple hardware & Apple software. The “but . ” comes from the fact that you will find occasional errors or just plan missing data, such as missing model numbers. Another “but . ” is the lag-time for developer to update this App. It’s not like Apple puts out new products every day, yet the developer can’t seem to keep up with the latest Apple software versions or hardware models?
One more thing, why is it necessary for a simple database type of informational App like this to only support more recent iOS and, therefore, more recent Apple hardware for it to run.
For it to be a “5-star” App, it needs to accomplish the aforementioned items. “But” then again it is free! 🙂

Приложение Mactracker – это база данных по всем ноутбукам, десктопам, смартфонам, плейерам, планшетам и серверам, которые когда-либо производились компанией Apple. Например, спорите вы с кем-то о том, какой номер модели был у 17-ти дюймового MacBook, выпущенный в период с февраля по октябрь 2008 года. Вам называют цифру наобум, а вы выдаете им – А1261. Есть и более приземленное использование – продаете свой iPhone 4 очень дотошному покупателю, коего интересует все, от даты появления аппарата в продаже, до версии iTunes, который поддерживал телефон изначально, то приложение поможет ответить на все вопросы.
Это лишь малая часть того, что может рассказать Mactracker. Количество выводимой информации шокирует и заставляет забыть, зачем вообще приложение было открыто изначально. Не каждый день удается узнать информацию о том, что было внутри компьютера Macintosh Performa 580CD. Те кто «в теме», понимают, что это, мягко говоря, не новый компьютер и, тем не менее, о нем есть подробная информация, от типа и модели процессора до истории появления компьютера.
С точностью до цифры
Рабочее окно приложения Mactracker разделено на две части. Основная, она же правая часть, показывает всю информацию о выбранной модели, а также список моделей в выбранной категории. Сами категории располагаются в левой части окна приложения и вот тут-то начинается рай для любителей статистики.
Базовых категорий десять: All Models, Current Models, This Mac, History, Timeline, Desktops, Notebooks, Server, Devices и Software. Первая категория открывает сразу же все модели разом в алфавитном порядке, от первого Apple TV до Xserve RAID. Вторая категория – это список всей продукции Apple, производимой на данный момент. Третья категория – это текущий компьютер, на котором запущенно приложение. Четвертая категория – история ваших просмотров. Например, если вы искали информацию о первом iPhone, а после этого решили заглянуть в историю Time Capsule, то эти устройства останутся в этом списке. Пятая категория – это расположение всех устройств Apple в хронологическом порядке.
Остальные пять категорий – это выбор отдельной группы устройств, которая после открытия делится на подгруппы. Например, Desktops делится на iMac, Mac Pro, Mac mini и другие, более старые «Маки».
Тот же самый алгоритм действует и с другими категориями. Последняя категория Smart Categories – это «умная» категория, которая подстраивается под ваши поиски. Например, показывает только ноутбуки и программное обеспечение. Еще ниже, там же в левой части экрана, находится раздел My Models – здесь хранятся все ваши Apple-устройства, которые вы внесли в приложение.
В итоге, когда нужный девайс найден, выбираем его и смотрим любую интересующую информацию, которая расположилась в шести закладках: General, Software, Memory&Graphics, Connections&Expansions, History и Notes. Первая закладка дает нам общую информацию об устройстве, вторая говорит о его программной части, третья рассказывает обо всем, что связано с памятью и графикой, четвертая раскрывает сетевые возможности устройства, пятая поведает нам об истории продукта, а шестая дает возможность почувствовать себя летописцем, внося свои заметки о каждом устройстве, которое вам интересно.
