Nvidia geforce gt 650m mac os

Question: Q: Nvidia GeForce GT 650M Web Driver

I own a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012) that has Intel HD 4000 Graphics and Nvidia GeForce GT 650M Graphics card on board. The web drive issue has been around since 2018 and I needed to finally update to the latest release. The question is this, is Apple ever going to release or allow Nvidia to release their updated Web Driver so those of us that are used to utilizing our Nvidia cards can do when we play games?

Did not solve my issue. I just want to utilize my Nvidia card again. This Mac has lasted me 7 years and I really love having it. If I have to upgrade to a newer model, I’ll find a way to afford it but I don’t want to go the Hackintosh route at all.

Thanks for reading.

Helpful answers

My graphics card is not listed as Mojave compatible (I’m on a 2012 retina MacBook Pro) and without any NVidia updates it is getting a bit tight to have an Nvidia card in your computer.

Both graphic cards used in 2012 MPB (Intel HD4000 and GeForce GT 650M) are Mojave compatible. No CUDA (no webdriver) under Mojave, but your 2012 MPB is supported on Mojave (Metal).

Thanks. I wasn’t sure about Metal. I set DaVinci Resolve — after turning off cuda — to Metal.

I gave that info under the original «solved» post here, but then took it off when I came across a list of Metal compatible cards and mine wasn’t listed. That list was likely a list for workstation cards, which it wasn’t listed. There are a lot of misleading «compatibility lists» on the web.

Only Apple and/or NVIDIA can answer and neither are here. This is a users forum.

Yes that is true this is a user forum but I have found out that users of any product have better information than the company or those representing it. So, I’m mainly here to see if anyone has found some type of source recently that they are closer to getting a new release done.

May 28, 2019 5:39 AM

And where would anyone get such information other than from Apple or NVIDIA?

May 28, 2019 5:53 AM

I have been getting an error message for about two years every time I start up my computer. It always tells me to upgrade, and, at the same time, that there are no upgrades available.

I use DaVinci Resolve 15, and have simply disabled CUDA there.

The lack of updates is also the reason I’m not updating to Mojave. Developers have reported a much reduced graphic performance in Mojave for Nvidia graphics cards.

My graphics card is not listed as Mojave compatible (I’m on a 2012 retina MacBook Pro) and without any NVidia updates it is getting a bit tight to have an Nvidia card in your computer.

Nvidia on the other hand states it has the drivers, but Apple doesn’t include them in the updates.

If any of these facts are wrong, I’d appreciate a correction. The problematic performance of my MacBook Pro with Davinci Resolve 15 might just be because of the dysfunctional Cuda.

It will show the GPU in use at the time.

You can go to Sys Info to see all GPU’s available.

>(option key) System Info>Hardware>Graphics&Displays

Thank you for your reply dear,

I did check that before, and I didn’t find it, that’s why I posted here, please take a look below,

The discreet GPU NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M is not being recognized.

I would take it in—

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter ‘Apple Service Diagnostics’ test and ask specifically for the VST (Video Systems Test)

Thank you again for your reply,

I have verified the specs, and here is the result

This particular model — the MacBook Pro «Core i7» 2.6 15-Inch (Mid-2012 Retina Display) features a 22 nm «Ivy Bridge» 2.6 GHz Intel «Core i7» processor (3720QM), with four independent processor «cores» on a single silicon chip, a 6 MB shared level 3 cache, 8 GB of onboard 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM (which cannot be upgraded after purchase), 512 GB of flash storage, dual graphics processors — a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory and an «integrated» Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics processor that shares system memory, as well as an integrated 720p FaceTime HD webcam. It does not have an internal optical drive.

Connectivity includes 3-stream AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 ports, two «Thunderbolt» ports, an HDMI port, an audio in/out port, and an SDXC card slot. It does not have Gigabit Ethernet or Firewire «800,» although adapters are available at extra cost.

In addition, this model has a backlit keyboard, a «no button» glass «inertial» multi-touch trackpad, a «MagSafe 2» power adapter, and an internal, sealed battery that provides an Apple estimated 7 hours of battery life.

I will try to pay a visit to Apple Dubai, and let’s see,

Nvidia:

  • Nvidia GT 640 1gb, 2gb
  • Nvidia GTX 650
  • Nvidia GTX 650 Ti
  • Nvidia GTX 660
  • Nvidia GTX 660 Ti
  • Nvidia GTX 670
  • Nvidia GTX 680
  • Nvidia GTX 690
  • Nvidia GT 730
  • Nvidia GTX 750
  • Nvidia GTX 760
  • Nvidia GTX 780

Nvidia GT 640 (Palit) + WebDrivers:

Question: Q: GT650m slow performance under 10.13 High Sierra

I have an early 2013 15″ Retina MacBook Pro with intel HD4000 and Nvidia GT650m dedicated GPU.

Since installing High Sierra I have had issues where the laptop switches over to the discreet gpu and performance drops, photoshop becomes unbearably slow, indesign slows, illustrator slows and so do other applications, in fact one ‘predict wind’ for visualising wind/weather patterns from grim files is also slower using the discreet GPU than using the onboard video.

None of this was the case when using Sierra 10.12.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I am assuming it is not a hardware issue as up until the installation of High Sierra everything was working fine, there have been no hardware mods of any kind since the new OS was installed, everything else seems to be fine, just anything/everything that requires the discreet GPU slows to a crawl.

P lease run EtreCheck and post the report here.

Click”Download EtreCheck” button, open Downloads folder, click on it to open, and then select ”Open”.

Click on the bouncing EtreCheck icon in the Dock.

“Choose a problem” from the popup menu box, and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.
