Realtek RTL8185L 54M Wireless Network Adapter Windows, Linux, Mac OS Drivers, Utility
Realtek RTL8185L, IEEE 802.11a/b/g Wireless LAN Network Interface Controller.
The Realtek RTL8185L, fully complying with IEEE 802.11a/b/g specifications, is a low-profile highly integrated cost-effective Wireless LAN network interface controller that integrates a Wireless LAN MAC and a Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) baseband processor onto one chip. To reduce protocol overhead, the RTL8185L supports Short InterFrame Space (SIFS) burst mode to send packets back-to-back. A protection mechanism prevents collisions among 802.11b nodes.

100% work on XP THK’s
your wireless adapters are rocking on my laptop. thanks to you i don’t have any problem again.
how can i download the linux driver, it asks for a login + password
Please I need help with this card on Win7 64 bits, have been on some forums and it seems to be a general problem with this card on Win7 64bit. Got some fixes but they only work sometimes. I’m running your latest driver but still no luck. Did all my Win7 updates but not even that helped, please let me know if you have a solution for me. It worked fine on WIN7 32 bits. I’m running DHCP on my wireless router. I’m only getting “Unidentified Network” with a Windows assigned IP that are not close to my DHCP range on my router.
mmmm no me sirve manden links
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro Windows XP laptop with a Realtek wireless network card. I’m using a Watchguard Firebox firewall and their VPN client. I’m trying to access our Novell network with the latest client for XP. I’m able to get through the VPN tunnel and ping my inside sites but the minute I login to the Novell client, the internet stops working and I can’t ping anything. If I reboot and don’t start the client, the internet works again. However, if I use a LAN connection from my house, everything works fine. I’ve set up20 different types of laptops with these same settings and they all work fine, but the Toshiba with the Realtek wireless card will not work. However, my Toshiba laptop that is about 8 years old works fine like all of the rest of the laptops I have set up to access my network through the VPN. Does anyone know how to use the RTL8191SE to connect wireless to the VPN? I know I can get in using a lan connection from anywhere but the whole point of the VPN is to connect wirelessly to our network. This has driven me crazy for weeks. I’ve even reformatted the entire computer and did a fresh install of the VPN mobile client and the Novell client. It gets through the tunnel just fine every time until I try to login to the Novell client. Please help if you can.
some time automaticaly rage gonig .my wireless network card rtl8185
I’ve installed this card in a Windows XP SP2 OS machine, with 256MB RAM and a 366MHz Intel Celeron. I’ve downloaded many versions of the driver controller but none seem to work. Driver installation does nothing the device keeps appearing under Device Manager as PCI Simple Communitacions Controller with the yellow exclamation mark. If I try to point to any net8185.inf file, it kees saying that the specified location does not contain information about the hardware. Am I missing something really stupid here? Does the card have compatibility issues? Is the machine too crappy? I welcome any advice since I’ve been fighting with this for days with no luck.
Thanks in advance!
Its like you read my mind! You appear to know so much about
this, like you wrote the book in it or something.
I think that you can do with some pics to drive the message
home a little bit, but other than that, this is fantastic blog.
A fantastic read. I’ll certainly be back.
I can’t find driver for PCI\VEN_00EC&DEV_8185&SUBSYS_818500EC&REV_20

With some fiddling, you can get it to work up to 10.7.4. This video might help others develop a solution, I tried on 10.8 but it did not work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9GnRHgqesU
If someone has the rtl8187l kext files, I would like to hear from you.
I will also say that the rtl8187l works with 10.8+ but only with KisMac. KisMac does not allow you to connect to networks though. I plugged in the RTL8187L and opened up the Network Settings preference pane and it could not be detected.

That needs 32-bit, and Mountain Lion is 64-bit. It’s not supported

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion and sadly it’s true. Alfa AWUS036H (RTL8187L) no longer work as WiFi adapter but KisMAC still can use the USB device to scan the network.
I’m yet to try my xiaopan since my previous parallel can no longer be used.
I’ve tried the http://www.jamesattard.com/2012/05/install-alfa-wifi-awus036h-on-osx.html steps but stucked since now I’m running a 64bit instead of 32bit.

I forgot to mention you can buy an ALFA R36 to use with the RTL8187L to make it compatible with Mac 10.8+, Windows 8, 7, XP as it uses a localhost based interface through ethernet or WLAN. It might be out of the price of most people. About $55.00 USD
But remember that the RTL8187L is very slow compared to the AR9271 or RTL8188RU.
I currently have my ALFA R36 connected to my AWUS036NHR with good speeds 🙂
This post (not the entire thread) explains that you can also setup a VM to get your RTL8187L to work also:

To all people: I received my Alfa AWUS036H yesterday and I was sad that mac os x 10.8.3 (a so to windows 8 in parallels) didn’t work with it. In windows 7 at the same parallels, no problem despite monitor software was not able to be installed, but signal of wifi increased a lot. Today I downloaded (http://www.mediatek.com/_en/07_downloads/01_windows.php?sn=502) a new drive and monitor (beta, may not work to someone). In a forum (http://xiaopan.co/forums/threads/alfa-awus036nh-awus036neh-mountain-lion-driver- utility.564/), they ask to delete former drive/monitor and install the new one. At mediatek site, they are confuse (maybe translation troubles), but you have USB RT 3x7x ( Alfa AWUS036H uses RT 3070 chip) drive. After click in this option, they ask your name and e-mail to start download. I installed the software and re-started mac. In Applications, there was a new folder — Ralink wireless utility. Clicking on WirelessUtility, a new icon appeared at top bar. So, then you click and select open wireless utility. Then, you conect usb with Alfa AWUS036H . Worked, monitor showed a increased wifi signal. Then, you can create one profile, save password, etc. Good luck!

( Alfa AWUS036H uses RT 3070 chip)
The Alfa AWUSO36H has an RTL8187L Chipset and NOT a RT3070 chipset
The RTL8187L is made by Realtek , the RT3070 by Ralink
If your Alfa AWUS036H has a RT3070 chipset, it’s a knock off. You’ll find plenty of them on cheap chinese websites.
The sensitivity of the RTL8187L is by far superior to the RT3070, almost like comparing WIndows to OSX, you just don’t. 😉
Realtek has stopped the RTL8187L support for the drivers after 10.6.8. (The last version for Realtek Utility was 1.5.7 2008 ) I am not aware on any tricks to make an Alfa AWUS036H work on 10.8. If anyone does, please let me know.
But remember that the RTL8187L is very slow compared to the AR9271 or RTL8188RU
