Scrap Mechanic – креативный симулятор выживания, в котором нужно строить различные механизмы, добывать ресурсы и сражаться против «ретробайтов» — сумасшедших роботов. Фабула игры такова: вы – механик-робототехник, которого послали на полностью автоматизированную сельскохозяйственную планету для обслуживания и ремонта техники. При посадке ваш корабль терпит крушение, а вы сами остаетесь один на всю планету с минимальным набором инструментов. Первая же вылазка показывает, что местные роботы сошли с ума и вместо того, чтобы заботиться о надоях, уловах и сборах зерновых, принялись активно вооружаться. Противопоставить всему этому безумию можно только инженерную смекалку и такие же безумные механизмы.
Scrap Mechanic предлагает не только приятную для глаз мультяшную графику, но и отменный физический движок, который позволяет создавать совершенно уникальные средства передвижения. Мир игры генерируется случайным образом, поддается изменениям и таит в себе кучу сюрпризов. Некоторые предметы в Scrap Mechanic можно создавать из добытых ресурсов, другие (например, подшипники, двигатели) придется искать.
