Sfc windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation

sfc /scannow: windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation

The command prompt’s sfc scanning stopped at 42% and showed the following error: windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation.

I’ve researched solutions through search engines, and I’ve tried everything including safe mode sfc scanning and chkdsk repairs, ALL of them didn’t work. Can anyone spare a min and help me find a solution?

I suspect you are going to need to do either a repair install or clean install of win 10 but before you do can we take a look at your event viewer logs

Please read this wiki to find out how to find and upload your event viewer logs

Can you tell us the underlying issue that caused you to run SFC so we can narrow the focus in event viewer? There are quite a few problems.

Now the errors make more sense. There are lots of errors pointing to timeouts and storage spaces. The fact that CHKDSK fails may confirm that there is a HD issue. I would go to the HD maker>find>download>and run their disk checking utility as CHKDSK only checks the file system not the acutal HD.

Sry, Can I beg your pardon? May i know what you meant by HD maker? Is that the manufacturer of my HD you’re talking about? If so, I can’t still find that disk checking tool as you mention through manufacturer’s website, or that i am wrong?

My HD is mushkin striker 960gb FYI. I’ve tried updated its firmware through device manager but it says my HD is up to date.

Happy to help and sorry I did not explain more fully.

As a first step I would update the firmware for the SSD.

If you still experience the problem after that see if Mushkin has a disk checking utility and run it.

CHKDSK is built into the OS.

CHKDSK /R
Chkdsk disclaimer: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found any data available on that sector might be lost so as usual backup your data.
Run CHKDSK /R from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt.
Do this for each hard drive on your system.
When it tells you it can’t do it right now — and asks you if you’d like to do it at the next reboot — answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter.

Then reboot and let the test run.
It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors.
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/guide-to-using-check-disk-in-windows-vista/

See «CHKDSK LogFile» below in order to check the results of the test.

CHKDSK LogFile:
Go to Start and type in «eventvwr.msc» (without the quotes) and press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).
Copy/paste the results into your next post.

I’ve did what you have instruct but I can’t seem to find my latest chkdsk stats in my source column, the latest chkdsk is from 9th October. That chkdsk was fine. After multiple chkdsk, the progress when stuck as i know between 9th October till today i’ve ran multiple chkdsk after i found some leftover errors. Did you know anything about this?

Anyway, here is the chkdsk from 9th October just in-case:

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation

Original title:SFC «Cannot verify component files for. »
Hello. I’ve been having some major issues with my wife’s computer, everything from freezing to the DVD drive not reading anything, so I tried to run sfc/scannow. After it reached 29%, I got the message

«Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.»

I followed the instructions found here:

to look up the SFC Detail log. The only issue I found in the log is as follows:

2012-06-20 16:28:10, Info CSI 0000001d [SR] Cannot verify component files for 354ba28acd40b28a8d2e968dafb6d11e, Version = 6.0.6001.18000, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = , Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral, manifest may be damaged (TRUE)

Can anyone give me some advice on where to go/what to do next? Thanks!

Method 1:
You may try the steps from the knowledge base article provided and check if DVD drive is working.
Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. How to back up and restore the registry in Windows:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-the-registry

Method 2:
You may check if the TrustedInstaller (Windows Modules Installer) service is disabled. To do so, follow these steps.
a. Click Start , type “ services.msc ” (without quotes) and press Enter.
b. Double-click Windows Modules Installer .
c. Set its Startup type to Manual .
d. Click OK. Now see if you can run the SFC scan.

Method 3:
If this does not help then, try performing an offline SFC scan from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRe).
a. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
b. Use the arrow keys to choose Repair your Computer in the Windows Advanced Boot Menu Options and then press ENTER.
c. Select Command Prompt from the System Recovery Options.
d. In the Command Prompt window type “sfc /scannow” (without quotes) and then press Enter.
e. Restart the computer after it is done and check for the issue

Method 4:
I would also suggest you to perform a check disk from WinRe (Windows recovery environment) mode and check for the issue.

sfc — Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

My Laptop is running Windows Vista Sp 2. It was running slow i decided to run sfc /scannow in safe mode. It runs ok but always stops at 80% showing the message

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 80% complete.

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

C:\Windows\system32>

When I checked the cbs log it shows the last lines are

Similar lines appear 7 other times earlier in the file (not sure if it is related but there are 4 users)

The Side bars were disabled so I renamed the original settings.ini file in the Windows Sidebar folders for each user user
%localappdata%\microsoft\Windows Sidebar

I then reset the sidebars and it has created a new ini file.

Unfortunately sfc still failed at the same point

How can i fix this problem and complete the scan?

Many thanks in advance as it is driving me insane
