Fix The Video Failed To Play errors in Windows 8
For the past couple of days I have experienced a strange error whenever I tried to play videos in an application on Windows 8. I always received the «The video failed to play» error when I tried to do so regardless of the video that I tried to play. I first thought this was due to country restrictions that app developers or services may have added to their applications to keep users from specific countries from playing the videos. Turns out, this was not the case.
I tried a lot to fix the issue. Here are a couple of things I tried to resolve the video playback issue:
- Install, uninstall and re-install Windows Media Center
- Uninstall and re-install Windows Media Player
- Changing Internet Explorer zone permissions
- Installing a system wide codec pack
- Using the codec pack to reset all codec associations
- Changed the language and region of the system
The restarts of the system went into the two-digit realm rather quickly and I was about to give up when I remembered that I could run the good old sfc /scannow on the system. The command scans system files to make sure they are not corrupt or modified in any way. It tries to automatically repair files that are not original anymore. This can for instance happen after a crash, when they have been modified by a third party program or malware.
To run the command on Windows 8 press the Windows key to get to the start screen of the system. Skip the step if you are already there. Enter cmd which should display Command Prompt on the left under Apps. Right-click the item and select Run as administrator from the bottom toolbar that opens up. This opens the command prompt with elevated rights. You may receive an UAC prompt that you need to accept.
Enter sfc /scannow here and hit enter.
The scan takes a couple of minutes to complete. You will be notified at the end if the scan found corrupted files and whether it succeeded in repairing them or not. The scan found corrupt files on my system and managed to repair them. Videos played just fine afterwards in all apps I tried.

Не могу воспроизвести музыку с сайта muzcentrum.ru. На том месте, где должен быть изображён проигрыватель- пустой квадратик. Как дополнить проигрывателем браузер?

На многих интернет-ресурсах (пусть меня, если что, поправят web-программеры или те, кто любит статистику :smileywink:) в качестве плеера используется Adobe Flash. В Вашем телефоне его нет, так как аппараты линейки Nokia Lumia поддерживают более новый стандарт — html5, подозреваю, что именно это и является причиной.

Почему в браузере нет флеш плеера? Или его нужно закачивать,если можно закачать то какой и где взять. Спасибо.

Yoska, нет мобильного флешплеера. И не будет. Флешьплеер заменяется на HTML5. Просто не все сайты перешли на него, некоторые до сих пор требуют флешь.

spiri58, если перестало воспроизводиться видео, загруженное на телефон, но раньше оно воспроизводилось нормально, переустановите ПО
ещё немного информации о том, какое видео может воспроизводить ваш телефон
Кодеки воспроизведения видео: H.263, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, VC-1, Видео Windows Воспроизводимые форматы видео: 3G2, 3GP, MP4, WMV, AVI, M4V, MOV Форматы записи видео: MP4/H.264

если видео в интернете, тут всё сложнее. Но на пример для Ютюба есть приложение от майкрософт. Оно может показать видео, которое другое приложение может не воспроизвести.

The video failed to play-Retry on some metro video apps
Hi.Ihave a problem whit metro apps that have online videos.It opens and let me select any video but after play an error appears»the video failed to play-retry».The apps just worked fine and from one they to another error.It happend me two times.First i did a restore pc and worked for 1 week and then error again.Now i did a sfc /scannow,ejecuted: powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.XML.I also Uninstalled the apps,did a d ism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /startComponentCleanup and Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth without results.
PS.:I created a new user and in there these apps are working just fine!!

For a better understanding of the App issue, let me know which antivirus software are you using?
This issue could have occurred due to these reasons.
- Conflict between third party Security Softwares.
- Incorrect App settings.
- Corrupt User Profile.
Let’s try few steps to resolve this issue.
Method 1:
I would suggest you to t emporarily disable antivirus or security software. Check if it helps.
Warning : Security software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn’t disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you’re done. If you’re connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
Method 2:
If the issue persists, I would suggest you to try the steps in the article (which you have not tried before) and check if it helps.
Troubleshooting problems with an app
Method 3:
If the issue persists, you may have corrupt user profile. To fix corrupt User Profile, I would suggest you to try these steps and check if it helps.
a) Press Windows and x together and select Windows Explorer.
b) Click on View tab and Click on Options at the top right corner.
c) Click the View tab, and then click Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
d) Uncheck the box which states Hide protected operating system files.
e) Click Yes to confirm, and then click OK.
f) Locate the C:\Users\Old_Username folder, where C is the drive that Windows is installed on, and Old Username is the name of the profile you want to copy files from.
g) Select all of the files and folders in this folder, except the following files:
•Ntuser.dat
•Ntuser.dat.log
•Ntuser.ini
h) Right-click and Select Copy.
i) Locate the C:\Users\New_Username folder, where C is the drive that Windows is installed on, and New Username is the name of the new user profile you created.
j) Right-click inside the folder and select Paste.
k) Restart your PC and check if you are able to log in to default profile.
