Ask people in your family or your friends’ families who have their own computers how they organize their personal files. Ask them what categories they use and how they decide what files go into each category. Make a class list of the types of data they store.

2 Read the text quickly. What do you use from Exercise 1 to make a folder?
1. To make a new folder in the Windows OS, go to the Desktop, find the My Computer icon with the pointer and double-click it using the left mouse button. The My Computer window appears, showing the different drives. Maximize the screen if necessary.

7. Click anywhere on the window to see your new folder name. If you do not click on the window, you will save your new folder as New Folder, not with the name you want.
8. Close the window.
9. Your new folder is now listed in the C: drive in alphabetical order.

Imagine that your class is going to store all the information from your English lessons on computer, so that any student can use it. How could you organize the information into folders (e.g. grammar) and files (e.g. the present simple)? Create a list of folders and files, and name them all.

1. Programs that let you create files or save data have a Save command, usually in the File menu. When you save a new file, the Save As dialog box appears (see below). You can let the computer decide the location, the file name and the format, or you can choose these settings yourself. There are many different file formats and they all have advantages and disadvantages. You can save a word-processing document as a web page, for example, or you can save digital photographs in a JPEG format, a TIFF format or many others.
2. The Save As command is the default command for any new document so the Save As dialog box appears even if you click Save. If you do not give a new document a file name in a word-processing program, the file name will usually default to the first line in the document. The default file name in graphics programs is usually ‘Untitled’.
3. If you work on an existing file and want to save changes, click Save, not Save As. You can use Save As to save an existing file in a different location, for example, in another drive or folder (using Save in) with a new name (using File name) or in a different format (using Save as type).
4. Having different folders helps you organize your files, but naming all the different files in one folder is not always easy. You should give files names that describe exactly what they contain so that you can find them easily.
e) Decide if the sentences are true (T) or false (F):

Can not create New Folder in Desktop
When I try to create a new folder on desktop, I get a error message «Item not found». But I can create a new file, like word, text.
Any one can help me? Thanks.

Go to> ‘This PC’ > ‘Windows (C): > «Users» > (your username) as in your post ‘Leya5’ , as in image below:
Check if there is folder ‘Desktop’ > if not > create a new folder by > ‘R/click’ anywhere on screen > select ‘New’ > select ‘Folder’ > L/click on ‘New folder’ created & select ‘Rename’ > rename it ‘Desktop’, > close window> return to desktop check if you can create a ‘new folder’ on Desktop.

yes, i have it. and i can open it, all desktop icons are here. The only one problem is I cannot create a New Folder on desktop, but I can create a New File (any type) on desktop.

I am not sure what is causing your problem, but I created a ‘New Folder’ on ‘Desktop’ from within the ‘Desktop’ folder and when checking the ‘DESKTOP’ the new folder appeared, try this see if it works for you.
Hope you can understand my procedure.

is there more than one user account on this computer?
if so, go to the other user account to see if the issues can be replicated there. If there is no other user account create one to test.
This problem is often related to a corrupted user profile.

You could try running a System File Check, (may fix) by > entering the command > sfc /scannow > at a ‘Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows Powershell (Admin) (depending on version of W10) > R/click on Windows Icon on Taskbar & select from menu.
Apologise, not aware your OS knowledge, hence detailed info.

When you open ‘Properties’ for the ‘Desktop’ folder in your ‘Username’ and select ‘Location’ does it show as in image below:
If not select ‘Restore Default’ (blank out is your ‘Username’, even if it appears correct still select. (worth a try).
Try create a new folder from desktop.
If that does not work try (suggestion):
Rename current desktop folder to ‘Desktop1’ > create a new ‘Desktop’ folder > try to create new folder from desktop.
Trying to avoid creating new user profile.

When you click on Desktop from the left panel in File explorer (not desktop in quick access or under This PC) what happens when you click on New folder from the ribbon. Also as a workaround that may work, in File explorer click on Documents then from the ribbon click on New folder then right click on the new folder and from the context menu click on Send to and select Desktop(shortcut)
