A recent hardware or software change night be the cause. To fix the promlem:
1. Insert you windows installation disc abd restartin you computer
2. Chose you language seetting, and then click «next»
3.Click «Repair you computer
If you do not have this disc, Contact you system administration or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: /windows/system32/drivers/wdf01000.sys
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt

HELP! Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.
I’m really hoping someone can help me! I’ve read thru dozens of threads to no avail. The laptop I use for budgeting, research and games has Windows Vista. I was downloading some trial games (probably too many at one time) and my system crashed. I don’t have the installation disk, nor the pre-installed «Start-up Recovery», did the F8 thing to no avail and I can not afford to loose any files.
I get absolutely no where but back to the Windows Boot Manager screen telling me that Windows failed to start. The following information is referenced:
\Windows\system32\drivers\acpi.sys
Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.
As Safe Mode via F8 is not an option for you, try a Startup Repair and / or a System Restore using a Microsoft Vista DVD
Manufacturers Recovery Disks do not normally have Repair Options; they are normally a reinstall to Factory Settings option only.
Here is the guide to using the Repair Options while using a Microsoft Vista DVD.
If a friend or work acquantance of yours has one, you may borrow and use it for Repairs.

If you do not have or can not borrow a Microsoft DVD there is a download of a Vista Startup Repair ISO file available which you can make into a Bootable disk to do the above Startup Repair and that method is recommended by a lot of posters in these Forums.
Unfortunately, you have to buy it.
Here is a link to it:
You can pull the Hard Drive and put it in a USB Hard Drive Enclosure > plug it into another Computer > and attempt to read and copy over your Data that way.
Or, you can download Knoppix > make a Bootable disk from it > Boot into your System with it (IF your Hardware is all working) > and copy your Data from the Hard Drive that way.

Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.
original title: WILL ALL MY MUSIC BE DELETED?
I just switched my Windows Vista computer on and it came up with the error message:
Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.
Its states something about a repair cd but I don’t have one? is there another way to fix the problem? thanks joe!
Follow these steps to attempt to fix your Startup problems.
Restore Point:
Try tapping F8 at startup, and from the list of startup selections, select Safe Mode by using UP Arrow Key to go there > then hit Enter.
Try a System Restore once there, to pick a Restore Point before your problem..
Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > pick a different time > Next > etc
If Restore does not work and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a Bootable Repair Disk to do a Startup Repair:
Download the ISO file at the supplied link, and make a Bootable Startup Repair Disk from it.
Go into your Bios/Setup, or Boot Menu, at startup, and change the Boot Order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the Boot Order, then reboot with the disk in the Drive.
At startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, to go into Bios/Setup, or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert that Bootable Disk you have made in the Drive, and reboot.
Above link shows what the process looks like, and a how-to, as it loads to the Repair Options.
Neosmart contains the contents of the Windows Vista DVD’s «recovery center,» as we’ve come to refer to it. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and just serves as a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, one could re-create this installation media with freely-downloadable media from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK kit, a multi-gigabyte download); but it’s damn-decent of Microsoft to make this available to Windows’ users who might not be capable of creating such a thing on their own.
Read all info at the website about creating and using it:
It makes a very good Vista Startup Repair Disk.
You can do a Startup Repair, System Restore, etc from it.
It is NOT a reinstall disk.
And the 32bit is what comes normally on a computer, unless 64bits requested.
Once it is up and running again, follow these steps:
Besides using an anti-virus, also scan for Malware/spyware:
Malwarebytes is as the name says, a Malware Remover!
Download the Free Version from the link above.
Download, install, update and scan once a fortnight..
How to use Malwarebytes after it is installed and Updated:
1. Open Malwarebytes > Click on the Update Tab across the top> get the latest updates.
2. On the Scanner tab, make sure the Perform full scan option is selected and then click on the Scan button to start scanning your computer
3. MBAM will now start scanning your computer for malware. This process can take quite a while.
4. When the scan is finished a message box will appear
5. You should click on the OK button to close the message box and continue with the Malwareremoval process.
6 . You will now be back at the main Scanner screen. At this point you should click on the Show Results button.
7. A screen displaying all the malware that the program found will be shown
8. You should now click on the Remove Selected button to remove all the listed malware. MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing the files, MBAM may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message stating that it needs to reboot, please allow it to do so. Once your computer has rebooted, and you are logged in, please continue with the rest of the steps.
9. When MBAM has finished removing the malware, it will open the scan log and display it in Notepad. Review the log as desired, and then close the Notepad window.
10. You can now exit the MBAM program.
Run the Vista System File Checker Tool:
1. Open a Command Window in Administrator mode:
* click Start
* click All Programs , then Accessories
* right click on the Command Prompt option,
* on the drop down menu which appears, click on the Run as Administrator option.
* If you haven’t disabled User Account Control (and you shouldn’t!) you will be asked for authorisation. Click the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password.
2. Start the System File Checker
* In the Command Prompt window, type: sfc /scannow ,
* press Enter.
* You’ll see “the system scan will begin”.
The scan may take some time and windows will repair/replace any corrupt or missing files. You will be asked to insert your Vista DVD if it’s needed.
Close the Command Prompt Window when the job is finished.
One caveat: you need a Windows DVD to enable SFC to make more than minor repairs.
“How to analyze the log file entries that the Microsoft Windows Resource Checker (SFC.exe) program generates in Windows Vista”
If SFC finds serious errors it can not fix, you may have to do a Vista Repair Upgrade Install.
If you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, borrow one from a friend.
